Australian superstar Luke Bracey (Warner Bros.’ Point Break, Academy Award winner Hacksaw Ridge) and Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect franchise, Hairspray) are set to star in the new feature film thriller Big Nickel. Tom Chilcoat is making his feature directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with David Birke who penned the acclaimed Oscar nominated film Elle starring Isabelle Huppert, and Screen Gems’ Slender Man starring Joey King.
Start of Principal Photography is set for Winter 2021 in the US.
In this gritty thriller, Charlie (Bracey), a charismatic Army recruiter, is tasked with signing the "big fish" for a promotion. The only thing that stands in his way is a disturbed ex-vet, Erik, that Charlie convinced to enlist years before. Erik is a dangerous man with a bone to pick, and he will not be satisfied until Charlie has paid a heavy price. As the pressure mounts, Charlie is ultimately forced to reexamine his dubious methods and face a thunderous reckoning of accountability.
A Traction and Arclight Films production, the film is produced by Traction’s Jason Tamasco (Netflix’s “El Chapo,” Opening Night) and Zak Kristofek (Book Club, Wildlife). Arclight Films’ Gary Hamilton (First Reformed, Hotel Mumbai), Ryan Hamilton (Possessor, Escape from Pretoria), and Ying Ye (The Furnace, Possessor) serve as Executive Producers.
“When Tom shared this script, I knew it was something we had to help make. I’ve never seen a story like this, especially set in this world, and Tom is exactly the right person to tell it. Australian actor Luke Bracey is best known for his work in Netflix’s original rom-com “Holidate,” Warner Bros. and Lionsgate’s Point Break, Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate’s Academy Award-Winning Hacksaw Ridge, and Hulu’s Award-winning “Little Fires Everywhere.”
Brittany Snow rose to fame after appearing in the NBC hit series, American Dreams. She has appeared in a series of commercially successful films including The Pacifier, John Tucker Must Die, Prom Night and the hit film Hairspray. Brittany is well known internationally for her role as ‘Chloe’ in all three of the Pitch Perfect movies for Universal Studios. Most recently she starred in Hooking Up, where she served as a producer and the Paul Feig-produced Netflix film Someone Great. On the small screen, Brittany appeared in Ryan Murphy’s “Nip/Tuck,” David E. Kelly’s “Harry’s Law,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” and last year as the lead of Fox’s “Almost Family.” Her writing/directorial debut short film Milkshake is currently on the festival circuit and has won numerous awards. She is represented by The Gersh Agency and Principal Entertainment.
Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek are Partners and Producers at Traction with Kristofek leading both the Production and Development departments for the company. Tamasco’s most notable projects include the 2015 official Sundance Film Selection, Bound to Vengeance, Netflix’s Opening Night, starring Topher Grace and Lauren Lapkus, and Netflix & Univision Networks’ show “El Chapo.” Most recently Tamasco produced the cult horror-comedy Deadtectives for AMC’s Shudder. With Kristofek’s extensive knowledge of putting together both small and large-scale productions including Wildlife starring Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paramount Pictures’ Book Club starring Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda. Both Tamasco and Kristofek are attached as producers of A Lot of Nothing, the directorial debut of Mo McRae, Produced by Inny Clemons with David Oyelowo as Executive Producer.
Gary Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, and Ying Ye’s production credits include the critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller Possessor starring Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, Sean Bean, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, which premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival 2020 and was released in the US by NEON in October 2020; the riveting Hotel Mumbai starring Dev Patel and Jason Isaacs, directed by Anthony Maras which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019; and the true-life prison break story Escape from Pretoria starring Daniel Radcliffe. Gary Hamilton also produced the Academy Award® nominated First Reformed, from writer/director Paul Schrader, starring Ethan Hawke and Amanda Seyfried. Gary Hamilton is Chairman of Arclight Films, one of the world’s leading independent film financing and sales companies he founded in 2002. Ryan Hamilton handles Sales and Acquisitions for the company that includes a library of over 300 film titles.
