If you watched the EMMY's virtual show in Los Angeles last night, well, there's nothing like opening other people's envelopes. While the best thing about "Pand-EMMYS" 2020 might have been the Alpaca as co-presenter, we also thought we'd open up someone else's envelope in the spirit of sharing some film news. Here's a letter we came across in LA. Read on...
From Screenmancer
We received a letter from Pluto Film in Germany about their latest entry into the SSIFF. That's the San Sebastian International Film Festival which is ongoing this week through Sept. 26 in the Basque region of Spain. Woody Allen's newest is the hot-button screen gem, but this should not overshadow the many independent films on display from filmmakers around the world, including Argentina's bold new talent Clarisa Navas.
The Letter from Pluto Film
Dear Friends, we are very excited to announce that LAS MIL Y UNA (One in a Thousand) is screening at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in the Horizontes Latinos Section on Weds. 9/23.
Set in a community of project houses, “One in a Thousand” explores deep friendship and sexual awakening. When Iris meets Renata, a young woman with a tough past, she feels immediately attracted to her. She will have to overcome her fears and struggle with her insecurities in order to experience first love.
A story full of tenderness in a very hostile environment where desire adapts many forms in the darkness, and gossip can turn into a hostile weapon.
Writer/Director Clarisa Navas from Argentina has a degree in Audiovisual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes de Argentina (UNA). In 2017 she directed her first feature film, Hoy partido a las 3, which participated in festivals including the BAFICI, Biarritz, Lima and Valladolid. Las mil y una (One in a Thousand), her second film was selected for San Sebastian Festival's Co-Production Forum, shown in the Panorama section of the last Berlin Festival and won Best Film in the international competition at Jeonju Festival.
