Arclight Films continues their drive to bring new stand out feature films to Cannes 2020 virtual marketplace with the fantasy-adventure film The King’s Daughter starring Pierce Brosnan (The 90’s James Bond franchise, Mamma Mia!), Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, The Maze Runner franchise, “Skins”), and now introducing the iconic Academy Award® winner Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins) providing the film’s pivotal role of narrator. Arclight has come on board to handle worldwide distribution rights excluding mainland China for the film directed and produced by Emmy® nominee Sean McNamara (Hoovey, “Even Stevens,” Spare Parts).
The King’s Daughter was adapted for the screen by Barry Berman (Benny & Joon) and James Schamus (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) from the best-selling Nebula Award-winning novel The Moon and the Sun. Arclight Films’ Ying Ye brought the project to the company.
The film is a fantasy tale of King Louis XIV's (Brosnan) quest for immortality that leads him to capture and steal a mermaid's life force, a move that is further complicated by his illegitimate daughter's discovery of the mythological creature.
“The world needs epic adventure stories to stir our hearts and minds, so we are thrilled to handle worldwide sales on The King’s Daughter. We have listened to our buyers and they are looking for completed quality films to fill their pipelines for when the industry is back on its feet and this gorgeous film has all the ingredients you need for success; a wildly popular novel, brilliant performances by the inimitable Pierce Brosnan and Kaya Scodelario and now wonderfully narrated by the incomparable Julie Andrews,” said Hamilton.
Arclight Films’ current slate of available films include the star-driven warmhearted comedy Butter, epic female-driven action film Tomiris, haunting thriller Let It Snow, Twist starring Michael Caine, Here Are the Young Men starring Travis Fimmel, Dean-Charles Chapman, Finn Cole, and Anya Taylor-Joy, sci-fi live action mecha film Heavens: The Boy and His Robot, Sundance’s critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller Possessor starring Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, Sean Bean, Jennifer Jason Leigh, directed by Brandon Cronenberg and will be released in the US by NEON, and the true-life prison break story, Escape from Pretoria, starring Daniel Radcliffe.
