Nashen Moodley with the Europe! Voices of Women in Film directors at SFF 2020.
YOUR GUIDE TO EUROPE! VOICES OF WOMEN IN FILM
FROM FESTIVAL DIRECTOR NASHEN MOODLEY
We received a number of brilliant submissions from all over Europe for this year’s Europe! Voices of Women in Film program, and while it was a difficult choice to settle on the final 10, Sydney Film Festival is delighted with this outstanding showcase of the works of extremely talented filmmakers.
These films come to us after successful premieres at festivals such as Toronto, Sundance and Berlin.
Proudly co-presented by European Film Promotion, these films tackle a range of provocative issues, from gender politics to the impact of colonialism; the environment to motherhood; and the power of art and culture to change lives. There’s even a sea monster!
SFF and European Film Promotion (EFP) have had a very fruitful collaboration over the past five years, and even when we were forced to cancel the in-cinema edition this year, we quickly began talking to EFP to try to realise the annual Europe! Voices of Women in Film lineup.
Each year, the majority of the directors from the program join us in Sydney for the festival, to engage with audiences and the Australian film industry. While that is sadly not possible this year, we are presenting introductions and exclusive in conversations for each film, which is a great opportunity to learn more about these leading filmmakers and their striking works.
We urge you to see each of these films – and to discover these vital talents from Europe.
