IFFI 50, I: 10 Oscar winners to be screened
On the occasion of the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the festival has announced a special section which celebrates some of the most outstanding films which have won the Best Film award at the annual Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. The section has been aptly named the Oscar Retrospective.
The films to be showcased in this section include Casablanca (1942) by Michael Curtiz, Gone With the Wind (1939) by Victor Fleming, Ben Hur (1959) and The Best Years of our Lives (1946) by William Wyler, All About Eve (1950) by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by David Lean, The Sound of Music (1965) by Robert Wise, The Godfather (1972) by Francis Ford Coppola, The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by Jonathan Demme, and Forrest Gump (1994) by Robert Zemeckis. All these films have not only won the Best Film award but also had been nominated in other categories at the Oscars, and have amongst them, won quite a number of awards.
The films in this category are some of the most popular and evergreen Hollywood classics, which cinephiles and film enthusiasts would love to eagerly watch on the big screen, at the 50th IFFI.
