One Little Finger is a Narrative Feature film (English) in order to bring awareness about disability and human rights, and to promote inclusion and diversity. Over 80 children and adults with disabilities have acted in this film. Some of them have genetic disorder, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, mental retardation, autism, down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, dementia, etc. Over a billion people live with some form of disability. One child in twenty is disabled, but physical disability is not a chance, or unfortunate occurrence, it is part of the human life cycle as we age or take turns in our life. In fact, we all know someone or our loved ones in our families with some disabilities who needs our love — could be our parents, friends, brothers, sisters, children; so we need to treat everyone with love and respect as a human being!
One Little Finger is a US / India production, written and directed by Rupam Sarmah, and starring Tamela D'Amico, Siedah Garrett, M.G. Abhinaya, Sayomdeb Mukherjee and a wonderful cast of actors with disabilities including Jeeja Ghosh Nag, Abhirup Chakraparty, Leo, Evelyn Armstrong, Sayan Sarkar. The film features soundtracks by Quincy Jones, Julian Lennon, Siedah Garrett, Peter Banks & Kechi Okwuchi.
Full synopsis: When an American neurologist, Raina, uproots her life to research music therapy in India, she finds herself teaching children and adults with disabilities by bringing them together through music and inspiring them to challenge themselves through their abilities.
Den and Angel are persons with disabilities who want to contribute towards the betterment of society by overcoming their physical challenges. As Den and Angel come of age, they learn to cope with abuse and bullying. Their lives intersect when Raina struggles to further her research.
Raina’s philosophy and life are changed with the time that she spent in India, where she is touched by the beauty of Indian culture and real-life stories of children with disabilities. Through her experience, she understands that balance of mind, body, and soul are vital aspects in realizing the true values of life. Disability is only what we perceive, ability is everything of what we believe.
