After the 29th edition of Stockholm International Film Festival wrapped on Sunday, we now have the pleasure to announce that the Audience Award 2018 goes to Capernaum by Nadine Labaki. The film was also presented with the Aluminum Horse for Best Script and was one of the most watched films during this year’s festival.
Capernaum by Nadine Labaki is the audience's favorite film, and was also awarded an Aluminum Horse for Best Script at Stockholm International Film Festival 2018.
Each year, the Stockholm International Film Festival invites festivalgoers to select the winner of one of the most important awards of the festival – the Audience Award. The audience nominates their favorite film by voting on the festival’s website.
This year’s Audience Award goes to Nadine Labaki for the film Capernaum. The film follows a precocious 12-year-old boy whose life is an everyday struggle in the slums of Beirut. Doing his best to survive and to protect those even more vulnerable than himself, he eventually launches a lawsuit against his own parents. Their crime, according to him, is that they gave him the life he has with little or no chance of leaving. Capernaum has been selected as Lebanon’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards 2019.
Runner up for the Audience Award is Everybody Knows by Asghar Farhadi followed by Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cold War.
The audience have been able to vote for their favorites from this year's 159 films on the festival website and app throughout the festival until November 18th.
