"Scrappy" has won the Zebrino Prize of 500 Euros, donated by Filmwerkstatt Münster, at the 2018 Zebra Poetry Film Festival in Germany last evening. Based on the Studs Terkel Award-winning poem of the same name by the director Dawn Westlake's father, Donald G. Westlake, "Scrappy" tells the story of a little girl's courage when confronted with an adult's momentary lapse in judgment. The story is based on a real-life anecdote from Donald's childhood.
It was filmed on location in Pine Mountain, CA, USA in 2016 by Pol Carrizo Vilarroig of Imatge Barcelona on a CanonC300 donated by Canon USA, Inc. An original score was provided by GC Johnson of Acoustic Labs.
The film marks the professional acting debut of Nefertina Lizarraga and her dog Kong, in the titular role of SCRAPPY.
