October means that autumn is officially here, but it’s not time to snuggle with hot cup of tea just yet, because there is so much to do and to see in Paris this month, that you can’t stay at home!
A day without cars in Paris – 1st Octobre
On the first of October from 11:00 – 18:00 All the streets of Paris will be free of cars! Enjoy this beautiful day by walking or biking everywhere! Why you might ask? The day is organized to decrease the air and noise pollution in the city, to increase awareness of the huge climatic problems we’re facing and prove that there are plenty of other options how to commute in the city. Festival d’automne 13th September – 6th January
The Festival d’Automne à Paris (Paris Autumn Festival) is a festival of contemporary arts, embracing and combining different art forms, happening from September until January. Although the events stretch into January, October is definitely not to be missed! Check out the programme and get your tickets, because there are great things to come – Forced Entertainment, Tim Etchells, Romeo Castellucci, Jerome Bel and so many more amazing artists!
Nuit Blanche – White Night – 7th October
The annual Nuit Blanche offers a vast number of opportunities to enjoy all around Paris all night long. There will be a lot of things happening in museums, galleries, cafés and other venues, so take a look at the lineup and have an artsy night out! Not to mention the metro lines 1 and 12 will be running all night FOR FREE, so there is no excuse to stay home.
Montmartre Wine Harvest – 11th – 14th October
There is something great about working with your hands, in the fresh autumn air while being a part of making possibly “the best wine ever”. Okay, you won’t be able to actually make the wine, but you can drink it! The harvest festival offers the opportunity to see the Parisian vineyards, savor the wine tastings and taste the local food specialities. There will be music, street performances and so much more. So, wine lovers and autumn aficionados unite and enjoy the Vendanges de Montmartre or Montmartre Wine Harvest. The full programme is available here.
International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC) 19th – 22th October
FIAC is coming back to Paris and showing off the best of contemporary and modern art of the world. The Art Fair is taking place in the amazing Grand Palais and brings together the works of thousands of artists from around the globe. In the words of FIAC – they’re “fresh, eclectic and edgy. A must in the autumn calendar.” More information is on FIAC’s website.
Salon du Chocolat 28th October – 1st November
Salon du Chocolat brings the world’s best and most delicious chocolate all in one place. A true celebration for chocolate lovers! Exhibitions includes cooking workshops, chocolate tasting classes, samples of new tastes of chocolates, chocolate making demonstrations, and chocolatey bookshop! Entrance fee is 14€ for adults, 6,50€ for children and the entrance is free for children under 3 years. There’s also the family ticket for 37€. You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy chocolate and it’s kind of the same thing.
