BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Event is a groundbreaking seven- day experience that is recognized for bringing together the world’s finest collection of ocean films, along with acclaimed underwater photography exhibits, esteemed filmmakers, photographers, marine scientists, policy makers and the surfing community and makes it all available to the general public.
BLUE is infamous for its multi-disciplined programming and dynamic synergies. It is through BLUE’s three- tiered structure that everyone is able to enjoy all that BLUE has to offer.
-The Film Festival: The screenings and filmmaker Q & A of the finalist films from the international competition, , and ocean photography and art exhibits, provide the environment for every person to experience, learn, understand, and become inspired about our oceans and the life within.

With the Film Festival, Industry Conference, and Conservation Summit all located in Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg FL, BLUE is Located right on the central west coast of Florida, it has easy access from the Tampa Bay International Airport. The Airport is a quick scenic drive across the bay to the festival headquarters-the Hilton St Petersburg Bayfront- and is home to several International Airlines.
As a boy, filmmaker James Cameron dreamed of a journey to the deepest part of the ocean. This film is the dramatic fulfillment of that dream. It chronicles Cameron’s solo dive to the depths of the Mariana Trench—nearly seven miles beneath the ocean’s surface—piloting a submersible he designed himself. The risks were astounding. The footage is breathtaking. JAMES CAMERON’S DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D is a celebration of science, courage, and extraordinary human aspiration.
Diving to the deepest point in the Mariana Trench is something like riding a cramped elevator that starts in a steamy tropical forest and ends in the dead of night at the North Pole.

The temperature will drop from sauna-like at the surface to meat-locker cold at the bottom. As the sun’s rays cannot penetrate the ocean’s deepest parts, the water goes from brightly lit to inky black. The sub will take about two hours to reach the seafloor and will have six hours or more to explore the deep-ocean frontier for clues about new life-forms and the forces that shape our planet. On ascent, due to the sub’s unique design, the time from bottom back to the surface will be only an hour, at speeds over 7 knots. James Cameron will pilot several dives during the expedition in the single-person sub, but here’s a snapshot of what the team expects during his journey to the Challenger Deep.
