In the real world, festivals for most attendees are more hard work than glamorous non-stop parties. For those of us who struggle to find time for anything but work over the first stretch of the Cannes Marche du Film, here are a few survival tips that have always helped me:
1. Carry water and bring a lunch. The two things that will keep you going throughout the day are also the things that tend to get put off til later... and you realize that at 6pm, you haven't had any water or eaten all day.
2. Rent a flat and cook. Unless you have an expense account that allows you to eat out three times a day in Cannes, put some time aside at the beginning of the trip and take advantage of the beautiful produce, luxurious cheeses, and fresh baked goods that are both affordable and plentiful.
3. Do your research, and hit the local haunts a bit off the beaten path- they are often less crowded and more friendly. This is the way gems are found.
