Doc Circuit Montreal is pleased to announce three new professional activities for its 7th edition, scheduled for November 14 to 16, 2011, during the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM).
Doc Lab
Led by a team of experts in cinema and interactive media, Doc Lab is an intensive 3-day workshop where 12 participants will explore new forms of documentary development and production. Working in teams of four, participants will be asked to develop an idea for a web documentary, serious gaming or a transmedia documentary, which they will present to a panel of industry professionals on Doc Lab’s final day. This hands-on workshop is an opportunity to explore the creative processes unique to these different types of production. Doc Lab will take place on November 10, 11 and 12.
Doc Lab is an initiative of Doc Circuit Montreal, in collaboration with Espace Infusion (INIS), and with the support of the National Film Board of Canada, the Bell Fund and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Feature documentary development grant
Doc Circuit Montreal, in collaboration with the production company EyeSteelFilm, presents a new pitch competition for Canadian independent directors. The goal of this new initiative, which includes a $20,000 development grant, is to support the research and writing of a feature-length documentary film. EyeSteelFilm is seeking an author-driven documentary project for theatrical release, with potential to generate international interest. Five finalists will be selected to present their proposals on November 15 at Doc Circuit Montreal.
Cuban Hat online pitch
Do you have an outstanding idea for a documentary? Join in the Cuban Hat online pitch competition and you could earn the chance to produce your film with the support of the general public and the documentary community. All Canadian filmmakers are eligible for this new initiative, which lets them test their ideas and benefit from crowd funding. Filmmakers are invited to submit a 3-minute video outlining a documentary project of any type. The videos will be posted on the Cuban Hat Project site, where the public will be asked to vote, and to contribute money or services to their favourite project. Five finalists will be selected to present their proposal to the public at the end of Doc Circuit Montreal on November 16.
