The 18th Stockholm International Film Festival launches a brand new music prize, the Best Music Award. The very first award is introduced together with legendary film composer Howard Shore, who will visit this year’s festival.
The Best Music Award is given to a film from the international competition section, Stockholm XVIII Competition. The award is presented to the composer for best original score. The winner is selected by the same festival jury that presents other awards in the competition section. This year’s jury will be presented before the festival begins on November 15.
Howard Shore, who will visit the festival to conduct a live performance of the score to Eastern Promises, launches the first award and will hand over an Aluminum Horse for best original score to the winner at the festival awards ceremony on November 24.
“I am honored to be able to present the very first Best Music Award. The Stockholm Film Festival has shown a tremendous support for composers and appreciation for their work. I am delighted to be able to visit and participate in this year’s festival”, says Howard Shore.
Shore conducts a live performance of the score to Eastern Promises at a special Red Carpet screening on Nov 22. He also leads a performance of the music to The Lord of the Rings in the Stockholm Concert Hall on Nov 25.
