High-Definition Digital Filmmaking Competition Brings Artist’s Visions from Script-to-Screen in One Week from July 20-28, 2007
The mystery is over. Now the challenge begins. Organizers of the Duke City Shootout Digital Filmmaking Festival announce the 2007 script winners. The winning scripts will be produced and premiered in Albuquerque from July 20-28.
“From Canada to California, from New Mexico to Florida, this is an exciting group of powerful new screenwriters,” said Jim “Grubb” Graebner, executive director of the Digital Filmmaking Institute, the non-profit organization that produces the Shootout.
The Shootout will fly the seven winning screenwriters to Albuquerque, where they will be given a cast, high-definition digital camera and lighting equipment, a production crew, post-production facilities, transportation and even a professional mentor—everything they will need to bring their script to life—a $50,000 value.
The 2007 script winners are from all around the United States and Canada and include:
Lisa Marks, Marina del Rey, CA
Maconie’s List (black comedy)
Scott and Paula Merrow, Albuquerque, NM
The Spider Experiment (family)
Dina Chapman, West Hollywood, CA
So Five Minutes Ago (sci-fi comedy)
Jason Kendell, Spring Hill, FL
Young Gun (comedy)
Richard Dargan, Albuquerque, NM
The Pitch (comedy)
Joachim Jung, Los Angeles, CA
The Dream Girl (comedy)
Will Hartman, Los Angeles, CA
Easy Pickins’ (comedy) - (The Slamdance screenwriting contest winner)
If any of the winners are unable to participate in the Shootout, they will be replaced by alternates, in the following order:
Marco Santiago, Phoenix, AZ; Suburban Compulsion (drama)
Ron Salzberg, Albuquerque, NM; Farewell My Lovely, Turkey Legs (parody)
The Shootout is excited to welcome back Joachim Jung to the 2007 festival. Last year, Jung was also selected as a script winner for his script entitled “Dog Day.” He is only the second writer in the Shootout’s history to be invited back a second time.
Jung was selected as a first alternate this year and took the place of Toronto’s Ralph Lucas who had to decline the Shootout’s invitation.
The 2007 Shootout is sponsored by the City of Albuquerque and its Urban Enhancement Trust Fund, Bernalillo County, CNM, IATSE 480, Intel, Apple, KNME, Si-Corp, Entertainment Partners, Writer’s Bootcamp, the Slamdance Film Festival, Albuquerque the Magazine, Big Byte and the University of New Mexico Arts Lab.
A full schedule of events for the 2007 Shootout will be available soon. For more information and updates, visit www.dukecityshootout.org, or email questions to info@shootdfi.net.
