Doremi, leading manufacturer of servers for Digital Cinema, organised an information conference about 3D on March 29, at the Publicis theatre on the Champs-Élysées, Paris.
Far from being a dream, the world of 3D and its economic opportunities are now appealing to Hollywood’s most prominent personalities. Patrick Zucchetta, CEO of Doremi Labs Europe, explains: “The current 600-theatre release of Walt Disney’s Meet the Robinsons shows very real economic opportunities that will quickly become reality, with 2800 3D-enabled theatres by the end of 2008. This summer, the worldwide 3D screening network should go above 1000 theatres, which is the number of theatres required for a project such as James Cameron’s to be profitable”.
This is why Cameron, captivated by 3D ever since his documentaries Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep, got involved in a blockbuster entitled Avatar with an annouced budget of 200 million dollars.
Cameron, however, is not the only one interested in 3D: Dreamworks will soon move to 3D production, and George Lucas aims to release a 3D version of the Star Wars trilogy…
