The International Panorama of Independent Film Makers (www.independent.gr) having existed for 8 years hopes to present an effluence of sounds and pictures which will unite various cultures and promote diversity. Our goal is to continue "the dream of art’s freedom ".
In the 8th International Panorama people will meet and bonds will be made in a cultural event which will take place in the city where it belongs, far from the fake star system, in the era of globalization, demonstrations, street fights between protesters and the police, in a time when freedom in expressing oneself is not truism.
We began a co-operation with the multi-cultural space "INTEAL" ( www.inteal.gr ) in Patras, in order to host our 8th festival.
INTEAL, a contemporary cultural monument, is the most classical cinema of Patras, located in the central pedestrian precinct of Saint Nicolas Street, daily crossing point for thousands of citizens of Patras and visitors as well. Opening in 1914, it was the first cinema in the city with an exclusively indoors movie theater and was associated with the expansion and flourishing of cinema in Patras, with particular sparkle during the era when avant premiers of films where a social event. INTEAL is now a flexible multi-space of culture and entertainment of 1500m². It is equipped in compliance with the highest European standards, ready to host all sorts of cultural events such as exhibitions, theatrical plays, conferences and movie projections. It also has an art-deco café-bar-restaurant. It targets to people of all age groups and has special facilities for people with special needs. INTEAL has a seating capacity of 700 people.
The 8th International Panorama will take place in Patras from the 23rd till the 30th of September 2006, with the ultimate goal of becoming the “International Film Festival of Patras”. Patras is a city with a long history in international festivals and it is high time it hosted it’s very own film festival.
Our participants have already sent us 208 movies from 56 countries, including feature films, short films, cartoons, animations, documentaries, video art, video clips and internet experimental videos. The festival will be divided in 5 parts: “Mediterranean, sea of peace”, “Greek Panorama”, “In the ends of the world”, “Walking through Europe” and “Balkan neighborhood”. The films competing for the prizes are divided in two categories: Greek and international.
Believing in the freedom of expression, and in the right every director has to speak their mind, all films will be projected without a preliminary committee, we do not exclude anyone. We respect each culture and each nation’s values as well as those of each director individually.
