2006 is onedotzero's tenth anniversary, and will be celebrated with very special events, projects and programming. onedotzero has grown from a pioneering weekend festival at the ICA in the mid-nineties, to become "the most crucial, groundbreaking festival of the early 21st century" [Guardian Film Unlimited], as well as being renowned as a DVD label and as a highly influential production company, producing programmes for Channel 4, and live tour visuals for The Rolling Stones, U2 and Little Britain.
Celebrations of the tenth anniversary started this year with very special events at three world renowned institutions. onedotzero created special Valentines screenings for the Tate Modern's Turbine Hall and cinema; curated 20 leading moving image artists for onedotzero_transvision, the V&A museum's February Friday Late, which was attended by a record breaking 6,000 people, and curated screenings for The Dana Centre, The Science Museum. Later this year, onedotzero will stage events at The Hayward gallery, and an exciting large scale live music event.
Over the past decade, onedotzero has been committed to championing, commissioning, producing, and presenting new innovative moving image works that cross music, architecture, design, film, interaction design, computer gaming and live audio visual explorations. onedotzero was the first festival to present and commission audio visual performances, computer gaming visuals, music videos, and commercials in a film and arts context and have played an essential part in bringing these works to a wide international audience and in raising awareness of original creative explorations. "As designers become filmmakers and art directors become photographers, onedotzero is the place to watch it all come together" [Creative Review]
Taking place at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, the tenth annual festival of innovative moving image will celebrate and consolidate the achievements of the last decade with a clear focus on the future. onedotzero_10 will explore new ideas and fresh innovation through curated compilation screenings, features, exhibitions, live av performances, club nights, presentations and panel discussions from internationally acclaimed artists and creatives. Past festivals have included exclusive screenings, rare presentations, Q+A's and masterclasses from world acclaimed directors including Spike Jonze, Mike Mills, Michel Gondry, Jonathan Glazer, and Garth Jennings.
The 10 day London festival is the first stop on onedotzero's global network of festivals, which travels across the UK, Europe, Asia, the Baltics, the Americas and Australasia. This global reach inspires the international perspective of onedotzero's programming. Last year the tour visited over 60 cities including Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Sydney, Athens, Lisbon, Sarajevo, Warsaw, Stockholm, Madrid, Berlin, Istanbul, Helsinki, Oslo, Belfast, Brighton, Bristol and Edinburgh.
onedotzero provides a place for both established and emerging creativity to thrive side by side, remaining accessible to all with a free submissions scheme. Receiving well over 1,000 entries each year, onedotzero open submissions is a vital source for discovering new talent from across the globe, and onedotzero actively sources and encourages a geographically diverse range of work.
design
onedotzero is developing 2006's design identity with long term design collaborator, Phillip O'Dwyer. New design partners, Inition, are using their pioneering 3D modelling system to create a physical object that represents the multi facets of onedotzero. This finished 3D design will in turn inspire print design for onedotzero_10. onedotzero is pleased to announce that longstanding contributors, Intro, will be creating the moving image idents for the festival programmes.
