Belgian director Harry Kümel will be president of the jury of the 12th Oldenburg International Filmfestival (September 7th to 11th 2005)
For the second time four German independent-productions will be judged by an international jury. The five industry insiders will give the “German Independence Award – Best German Film” to the best nominee.
Belgian HARRY KÜMEL is the president of this year’s jury. His first feature “Monsieur Hawarden” paid homage to Josef von Sternberg and brought him international acclaim. His later work made him one of the most influential directors of the 70s, as he developed a keen sense for cinematic surrealism. For “Malpertuis” he worked together with Orson Welles and Jean-Pierre Cassel.
American DAVID L. BUSHELL is an established name in the industry having produced such critically acclaimed hits like the award-winning „Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind“ by Michel Gondry. He presents his latest production “The Wendell Baker Story” with Luke and Owen Wilson for its international premiere in Oldenburg.
During her years working for the Festival du Film Britannique de Dinard and for Toronto Film Festival French LUCIE KALMAR established contacts with many journalists, programmers and distributors around the world. Today she works for Wild Bunch, one of the leading companies in producing, acquiring and distributing radical and innovative films globally.
British producer MICHAEL RILEY has done features, videos and theatre-plays. His “Boston Kickout” was hailed by critics and audiences alike. He produced “In a Land of Plenty” for the BBC. A few years ago Riley became head of production company Sterling Pictures. In 2004 Riley was in the selection panel for the UK Film Council’s First Light production.
US-based producer, director and writer STACY COCHRAN impressed the international festival scene and critics alike with her debut “My New Gun”, a biting satire about the American dream. Her documentary “Richard Lester!” paid homage to one of the founders of the independent cinema.
