CANNES: The European Film Academy will announce his nominations for the European Film Awards in the Sevilla european film festival
The mayor of Seville, Alfredo Sanchez Monteseirín, will sign next monday on behalf of the Seville Film Festival an agreement with the European Film Academy, during Cannes Film Festival, mercy to which, the supranational organisation compromises itself to make official the collaboration with Seville European Film Festival (100 % European) and from this edition, which will take place from 4th to 12th November, will make known in a gala in the Sevillian capital during the course of the Festival the list of films and professional candidates for the European Film Awards, until 2008.
The agreement signed by Sanchez Monteseirín and Marion Döring, managing director of EFA, affirms that the European Academy recognizes Seville Film Festival as "an interesting and emergent festival (...) that should be supported by EFA". Therefore, they have decided to promote the existing collaboration from last 2004 between both organizations for the Section Europe Europe, selecting the Sevillian festival as the suitable frame to announce to the media of the whole world the nominated ones to the European Film Awards, which will be given the following month in Berlin.
Seville Film Festival will do the necessary arrangements in order to screen in the Festival the majority of the nominated films, as well as the 12 short films nominated to the Prix UIP in different film festivals.
The effect of this agreement, signed in the frame of the Festival of Cannes, which takes place from 11th to 22nd of May, will be of 4 years from this 2005. The next edition of Seville Film Festival will have France as guest, the nation of major production and major national quota of market in Europe. The French presence will spread over several sections and tributes, showing the work of some of its best known masters, as well as the strength of the new generation of filmmakers.
Seville Film Festival reached the number of 55.000 spectators during the edition of 2004. All the prizes economically endowed, in both categories, feature films and documentaries, are given to the distributors in Spain of the winner films, as suitable method to favor their commercial premiere. In whole, 210.000 Euros are distributed in prizes.
