Best Short Film EEFF2011
The jury for the 11th East End Film Festival is almost complete and we have already have lined-up a 9 member committee of guest programmers dedicated exclusively to our shorts submissions. Film professionals Rebecca Davies (Film4), Eftihia Stefanidi (Future Shorts), Matt Strachan (Filmmaker), Rebecca Brand (WFTV), Laura Kloss (Curzon), Kieran Lavery (PRS for Music), Jenna Blencowe (Curator) will be joined by EEFF core staff Andrew Simpson and Gemma Mitchell to select the very best shorts within each of their curated strands. Each of them has kindly shared their short autobiography with us for this occasion...
Jenna Blencowe
Jenna Blencowe currently works in a London secondary school where she runs a French Film Club. Previously she has worked in the Barbican Film & Creative learning departments, with the Picturehouse cinema head office ‘City Screen’ and Future Shorts.
Rebecca Brand
Rebecca is kept pretty busy as Head of Communications at Women in Film and Television UK. She runs the organisation’s short film series, Show Us Your Shorts, and is the UK representative on the Women in Film and Television International Board.
Rebecca Davies
Rebecca is a staff writer at Film4.com. She also works as a freelance journalist and has previously programmed shorts for the Birds Eye View film festival.
Laura Kloss
Laura is the Events Manager at Curzon Cinemas. She also programmes and runs workshops for the ‘CineKids’ and ‘Moving Image South’ strands at Curzon. She has selected shorts for Birds Eye View Film Festival in the past and curated her own independent film nights in London.
Kieran Lavery
Kieran Lavery works at PRS for Music where his job is making sure that songwriters get paid for their songs. He has also dabbled in film distribution and marketing – in his spare time he likes to get into intense discussions about film.
Gemma Mitchell
Gemma Mitchell is a wearer of many hats, working across cinema and digital projects. She is our Head of Operations, but is also the co-Director of the Underwire Festival, Director of YARNfest and a film producer.
Andrew Simpson
Andrew is the East End Film Festival’s chief programmer. He has previously worked in a variety of roles for the London Film Festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Open City London and the UK Jewish Film Festival.
Eftihia Stefanidi
Eftihia is the Festival Coordinator at Future Shorts and the Co-director of The Short Film Movement+. In the meantime, she writes, curates, photographs, produces, and travels.
Matt Strachan
Matt makes films as well as writing about them. Although this forces him to put his money where his mouth is, his hands do most of the typing and his films are made for peanuts, leaving his mouth free to mumble overly complicated metaphors about itself.
