The one thing I really love about the LA ComedyShorts Film Festival, well, there are many things, but in particular are thepanels. While I may have mentionedthis before it bears repeating because the panelists are the most honest, irreverent and hilarious. Youlearn a lot, you get it straight and you know exactly where you stand … in along line of other people trying to get jobs in the industry.
The hunger of interest in the audience is palatableunlike other audiences at other festivals where people just want to know how toget famous. Writers and comics heretake this shit seriously and really aspire to create quality projects that aresmart, funny and successful.
That said, here are some of the insightful, meaningful and expert advice tips given by today’s panelists which included:Disney Channel-Executive Director of Alternative Programming, Judy Meyers,Manager-comedy and drama development at FreMantle, Lindsay Goffman, CartoonNetwork/Adult Swim-comedy development, Walter Newman, National Lampoon-VicePresident Production and Development, Justin Kanew.
* If you’re new to the Los Angeles area, takeFountain.
* When pitching something to an executive, don’tbring food, but feel free to wear a rubber ass on your head.
* Technically, unsolicited material cannot be lookedat, it’s legal thing, so network people!
* Personal blogs and Twitter are ways some execscurate funny people.
* Can’t stress enough how many panelists have said,“The Cream ALWAYS Rises to the Top!” So create, write, produce quality and it’llhappen.
* And my own personal favorite, because I made itup, Ass+Chair=Writer!
