With box office hits and award winning films, the German film industry is at a commercial and creative highpoint.
For many years, a selection of German films has been spotlighted in the German Cinema series, which takes on a new form as of 2011. Entitled German Cinema - LOLA@Berlinale, the programme will present films longlisted for the German Film Awards (aka Lola) by the German Film Academy. The series will remain an outstanding and important component of the European Film Market. The films longlisted in the categories feature, children's and documentary film will be screened in presence of the respective director. The screenings are open to accredited national and international professionals as well as to members of the German Film Academy eligible to take part in the nomination. As an expert and avid patron of German film, as well as active honorary member of the German Film Academy, long-standing head of German Cinema Heinz Badewitz will continue to host the series. German Cinema - LOLA@Berlinale is a joint project of the Berlin International Film Festival, the German Film Academy and German Films, the national company for promoting German films.
