This year's Stockholm Film Festival Visionary Award recipient, Gus Van Sant, will attend the festival to receive his award and meet the festival audience in a Face2Face. Furthermore he presents the screening of his masterpiece, My Own Private Idaho, and exposes his portrait photography in an exclusive exhibition at Fotografiska.
Motivation: With a heart that beats for society's outsiders, Gus Van Sant has journeyed from the streets of Portland, to riots in San Francisco, through empty high-school hallways, and down desolate highways along the way to Idaho. He has shown us an America on the other side of the looking glass -a mirror world, both familiar and startlingly alien, designed by a true visionary filmmaker with the sensibility of the poet.
On November 20 Gus Van Sant receives the Stockholm Visionary Award at the Skandia Theatre where the film scholar Stig Björkman will interview him during an hour-long Face2Face. But the festival audience will be able to meet Gus Van Sant even earlier on November 18 when he presents My Own Private Idaho at Sture Theatre.
Beginning November 11, the exhibition "One Step Big Shot" will be on display at Fotografiska in Stockholm. It is a series of photographs taken with a Polaroid camera that begun as spontanious documentation of different screen tests but has since developed to a scaled-down collection of portraits of young amateurs as well as famous Hollywood stars, such as Nicole Kidman, John Travolta, Keanu Reeves, and Drew Barrymore.
