2010 Oscars: Been There, Done That Thanks to Golden Globes

user
Well, after watching the Golden Globe Awards ceremonies last evening, I had the distinct feeling: who needs the Oscars? I've already seen the winning films, directors and actors and heard their acceptance speeches. The Oscar ceremony, which is not scheduled until six weeks from now, seems quite besides the point. Except for the fashion ("who are you wearing?" is the question of the moment), I am imagining that last night's Golden Globe winners will be simply re-doing their "best of" acceptance...

Through seven bottles of cursed wine, we follow the journey of Valentina, a beautiful artist living in Berlin. She concedes to her mother's ultimatum, and pursues a heterosexual relationship to appease her, only to catch her new boyfriend in bed with another man. Her inability to cope with her life triggers her repressed male alter-ego to emerge and take over…

Oscar Frontrunners: Iraq versus The Economy

user
While most people go to the movies to escape the avalanche of bad news that seeks to overwhelm us, two films with topical subjects are emerging as the frontrunners in the Best Picture Oscar race. THE HURT LOCKER, the much lauded Iraqi War drama directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and UP IN THE AIR, the Jason Reitman-helmed, George Clooney-starrer that has the economy and corporate layoffs as its background motif, are the most honored films of the year so far by a range of critics groups and ...

Writer/director Michael Hoffman has made a diverse bunch of movies, from the quirky comedy Soapdish to the romantic comedy One Fine Day to his take on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Now he has tackled the final days of Leo Tolstoy in The Last Station, based on the novel by Jay Parini. The Clearwater Film & Music Festival

The Clearwater Film Festival is evolving.

In 2010 we came out of the gate with a glowing presence, hosting 75 films, a dozen educational film panels, six beautiful parties and the initiation of The Wavecrest Award.

This year we are poised to do it again, bringing a stronger live music element with a multitude of stages at participating establishments on Clearwater Beach.  In addition to keeping our eyes open for great films, this summer we have our ears to the ground to locate the brightest musical talents seeking a spotlight.  At festival time we will present a ripe harvest with a bounty of entertainment with something for everyone.

Be part of it.

Opportunities are here for everyone, whether you are here to be one of our many outstanding artists, partake of the entertainment, or join us as a vendor.  We want you involved.

The Clearwater Film Festival is a platform built to showcase seasoned filmmakers and emerging artists who demonstrate the synergy of the actor, writer and director. When great talents work harmoniously the results may be beautiful, questionable or even shocking. When the talents of the actor, writer and director belong to the same person, the triple-threat filmmaker, those results are often extraordinary. It is here that we applaud those efforts. Quality film submissions of any length are welcome from all genres worldwide. You need not be a “triple-threat filmmaker” to participate, just show us what great teamwork can do, and bring your vision.

Submit online, print your film registration and ship along with two (2) DVDs and payment to The Clearwater Film Festival, 611 S. Fort Harrison Ave, Suite 383, Clearwater FL 33756 USA. Follow guidelines for pricing and include a personal check, money order, or international money order.

The New Home For International Cinema

user
With foreign-language films (with "dreaded" sub-titles) becoming more and more difficult to find theatrical distribution, the action has moved to the home screen for even films that have been major presences on the international film festival circuit. IFC Films, which still does do day-and-date simultaneous openings in theaters and on its on-demand television network, is increasingly showcasing films strictly on its IFC ON DEMAND service, available via cable and satellite tel...
