Cinfest 2011 Closing Ceremonies

user
Cinefest 2011 Closing Night I often find at the end of a film festival, some of the films I chose to see will unintentionally deal with the same topic on some level: Brother & Sister, Terri and Vampire all dealt with care for an elderly parent, two of which had Alzheimer's. Womb explored an Oedipal complex and Brother & Sister performed a staged version of Oedipus. If I thought about it longer, I'm sure I'd find more cross references. I enjoyed my movie date...

Tinsel & Tine was featured on two sites this month   Restauranteers.com & The Blogstress Network. The exposure is great and between Cinefest press pass and PFS giving me the opportunity to interview Mo...

Day 2 in Off Plus Camera: things you do when you are cold....

user
I felt cold but did not want to be sick. So???  Let me tell you about my strategy on killing germs of a cold. I slept a bit longer? J and decided to cancel the visit to the studio, state of the art post production complex 20 km off Krakow that immerses you in Alien’ Geigers setting. I also skipped the visit of the old town and worked (in my room) my emails and dealt with other business issues…At 1.00 I went to the panel held by Christian Gaines from IMDB on self distribution...

The Bang Bang Club is the true story about four, free spirited combat photographers with a passion for danger and search for the truth during the uprisings in apartheid South Africa from Nelson Mandela’s release from serving a life sentence in prison on February 11, 1990, to the first democratic election in 1994, in which he became President until 1999. Follow these fearless young men as they demonstrate bravery, camaraderie, and moral turpitude, in the heart of the apartheid riots and “tr...

We Don't Need No Stinkin' Carpet! by Kimberly Deisler

user
With the whole of LA being awash with red carpets, I’m surprised Moses hasn’t shown up. And yes, the LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival has a carpet, well … it’s actually a runner, and yes it’s red, and yes celebrities stand on it and get their pictures taken albeit a much more intimate setting than some of those other snobby assed carpeted events. AND YES, I LIKE IT, MUCH, MUCH BETTER! There’s no security asshole the size of a building telling you you can’t talk to the ‘talent,’ ...

NOTE TO SELF:

user
Note To Self:by Kimberly Deisler  The one thing I really love about the LA ComedyShorts Film Festival, well, there are many things, but in particular are thepanels.  While I may have mentionedthis before it bears repeating because the panelists are the most honest, irreverent and hilarious.  Youlearn a lot, you get it straight and you know exactly where you stand … in along line of other people trying to get jobs in the industry.   The hunger of interest in the audience is palatableunlike...

RAW MATERIAL, interview with Christos Karakepelis

user
photo still from film One of the documentaries highest on my list at this year’s 13th TDF was the film, RAW MATERIAL (Greece, 2011) by director Christos Karakepelis. This documentary left me with chills, not only because of its raw subject about the declining Greek economy but the worsening of the situation of immigrants to Greece and the inhumane lives they lead. When we follow the lives of three Roma from Albania, two Indians, a Turk and a Greek who subsist on the collecting...

Wed Yú

Director: Natalie Adorno.
The word Paez WEDX YÚ means "water fish" and it was the name of the territory of the ancestors of the current shelter in San Andrés de Pisimbalá where is the Archaeological Park of Tierradentro, in the department of Cauca, Colombia. The current descendants of the NASA people are rediscovering their identity and regaining its cultural tradition organizing a meeting of three days. It is a testimony for the recovery of memory and tradition. The meeting is organized by a party host chosen by the community, it is organized around a ritual of harmonization and thanks to Mother Earth. Traditional doctors prepared the remedy of harmonization for the whole community that comes with pleasure. Harmonization for life, peace and coexistence. This is life, not disunity. It is the tradition and anybody could not live without it because a people who do not look to its past is a people that has no clear future. Thus, in this environment that looks to its ancestors, through music, traditional food thanks to the Minga (ancient tradition of community for purposes of social utility.) and the exchange of products and the recovery of a rock, this cultural encounter is made to "recover what eighty years ago was lost.”
