Fast Food Nation Premier

Last night my colleagues and I got the opportunity to climb the stairs at the premier of Fast Food Nation directed by Richard Linklater featuring Ethan Hawke, Greg Kinneer, and Wilmer Valderrama. We arrived at about 9:45 and while we eagerly waited in line the cast of Volver exited the Pailais and descended the stairs. We entered the Palais at about 10:15. Walking the red carpet was awesome. There was about 100 paparazzi lined up and flashing their cameras. The music was blasting and ther...

The Arrival! The Actors Come and the Festival Begins

user
Wednesday was the first official day of the festival, but to a few select few it really started on Tuesday. Tuesday was the arrival of the Da Vinci Code Key Players: Dan Brown, Ron Howard, Paul Bettany (who also starred in Wimbledon...a quality piece of romantic comedy with a superb soundtrack in my opinion), Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou, and Tom Hanks...to name a few. Unfortuantely, Hanks likes his privacy, so I only got a really good picture of the reflective window in his car. They arrived ...

The rythm of The Lost City

user
Did you ever see Bill Murray do the salsa? Or the mambo, rumba or any of that other Latin stuff? Well, let me tell you something. The guy’s got rhythm. I couldn’t help myself watching him in awe as he steered his way around the dance floor with a couple of breathless women. So, thinking I should get a firsthand experience, I navigated through the crowd of undulating bodies in a hope of being next in line. But woe is me, the music suddenly ended and Bill slipped off the floor.I found him in a...

“The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!”By Cassendra Gavawas all I could think of on that week leading up to the 4th annual RUSSIAN NIGHTS FILM and CULTURAL FESTIVAL, stationed in LA’s royal blue architectural gem, the Pacific Design Center. Now I love attending film festivals, especially exotic ones, but helping to organize them is another can of beans entirely. As a creative consultant to my “mad Russians”, as I tenderly refer to them, I was quickly driven to slurp the vo...

The point break at Surfriders is where the sport of surfing gained popularity in the early 60’s and the town is home to countless residents associated with the entertainment and record industry. This years festival featured a potent combination of surf/skate films, music documentaries...

Magyar film revue: from the ridiculous to the sublime

user
New Hungarian features on view here range from the utterly ridiculous to the utterly sublime. At the ridiculous extreme is "TAXIDERMIA" by "Hukkle" director Pálfi György, while on the sublime side of the spectrum is the ethereally sensuous "The Bird Saviour, Clouds and Wind", by first time director István "Taikyo" Szaladják."Taxidermia" doesn't have much to do with the art of taxidermy (although a taxidermist does make a brief appearance toward the end), but everything to do with force feedi...

Munich certainly makes you think

user
Munich certainly makes you think; it might be about the silly continuity error of a man spectacularly falling dead on his chest crushing a large bag of his shopping, in the lift lobby of his apartment block, seen a moment later lying flat on his back. The odd thing is, there is no need at all for the second shot. This thought might keep bothering you for a while, until it is disturbed by one of the many unguarded conversations that various undercover groups have in very public places, ranging fr...
