The Girl Who Played With Fire, the highly anticipated second instalment of the Millennium Trilogy, is coming to Cornwall in September. Noomi Rapace reprises her role as Lisbeth Salander, described by esteemed critic Roger Ebert as “compelling as any movie character in recent memory.”

When a researcher and Millennium journalist on the cusp of exposing Sweden’s sex trade are murdered, Lisbeth’s prints turn up on the murder weapon, making her the prime suspect. With a history of violence, she is reported as a danger to society, but she’s nowhere to be found. Mikael Blomkvist, editor-in-chief of Millennium, refuses to believe what he hears on the news and sets out to clear Lisbeth’s name. As he delves deeper, he uncovers some horrible truths about her past, revealing the young woman to be a product of a corrupt system.

 Stieg Larsson’s novels have become the biggest publishing hit since Harry Potter and a Hollywood version is already in the pipeline. LA Times critic Betsy Sharkey wrote highly of The Girl Who Played With Fire, claiming "though the thriller is in the hands of a different film-making team this time, led by Swedish director Daniel Alfredson and screenwriter Jonas Frykberg, they've kept the searing intelligence and ruthless bent that turned the first book's adaptation into an international box office hit." Guardian Film blogger Ben Child found the follow-up to be “a rather sharper piece of film-making than its predecessor, and while the film will appear stylistically bland to viewers used to fiercely stylised Hollywood thrillers, this actually adds to its sense of verisimilitude.” To catch the film before Hollywood gets its hands on it, head to the Phoenix Cinema in Falmouth or the Royal Cinema in St Ives at 5pm on Sunday 5th September. It will also be playing at WTW Cinema's White River Cinema in St Austell on Monday 6th September at 8.15pm. The screenings will be held as part of a fundraising event for this year’s Festival.
