Uranium Film Festival

The International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro is dedicated to all films (movies, documentaries, animated films, image films, art, fiction and non-fiction) about any nuclear issue: uranium mining, nuclear power plants, nuclear accidents, atomic bombs, nuclear waste, radioactive risks: From Hiroshima to Fukushima. It is an annual and global film festival with travelling festivals in other countries and cities.

The best and most important films of the year receive the festival Award or a Special Recognition. The Uranium Film Festival Award is a piece of art created by Brazilian waste-material-artist Getúlio Damado, who lives and works in the famous artist quarter Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro. Getúlio uses waste material that he finds in the streets of Santa Teresa and old, broken watches to remember the first atomic bomb dropped over Hiroshima. Watches in Hiroshima stopped exactly at 8:15 in the morning when the A-bomb exploded on August 6th, 1945.

Press Release: The International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro 2013 invites nuclear films

The next International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro is scheduled for May 2013. It is the worldwide only film festival that tackles all nuclear issues: from exploration and mining of radioactive minerals like uranium to nuclear energy production, atomic waste, nuclear medicine, atomic bombs, nuclear war and nuclear or radioactive accidents: from Three Mile Island to Chernobyl, Goiânia and Fukushima. For the competitions the Uranium Film Festival accepts independent short films and feature films, documentaries, movies and animated films. There is no production date limit. The films can have been produced at any time.

This year, the Uranium Film Festival also accepts so called Image Films (corporate-sponsored, educational, and branded films, ...) produced by or for companies, institutions, governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and charitable organizations about all nuclear issues for special screening sessions. Like in the case of the independent productions, the films can have been produced at any time.

The film entry deadline for the independent productions is January 31, 2013. The film entry deadline for the Image films is February, 20, 2013.

The festival will be held between 2nd and 12th of May, 2013, in the cinema of Rio de Janeiro´s famous Modern Art Museum (MAM).

There is no entry fee!
