Third Eye, 2022, 19, 05: Iranian film Open Season bags the Best Short Film award at Asian Film Festival

The week-long Third Eye Asian Film Festival was held at the P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, Prabhadevi, Mumbai, from December 12 to 18.

Deputy Secretary in the Tourism and Culture Department of the Maharashtra Government, Mrs. Vidya Waghmare was present at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Mrs. Vidya Waghmare, Kiran Shantaram (Chairman, Asian Film Foundation and Third Eye Asian Film Festival), Premenra Mazumdar (Curator of this Festival) and Sandeep Manjrekar (Deputy Director of Third Eye Asian Film Festival)

In this festival, films from Iran, Srilanka, Malaysia, USA and Bangladesh were screened, along with Indian films in the following languages: Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Konkani, Gujarati, Punjabi. Out of a large number of entries, 35 feature films and 30 short films were selected for the festival.

Open Season is directed by Mohammed Hasani. The second prize went to Mogra, directed by Mayur Dhamapurkar. The Jury also gave a special prize to Red Pen, directed by Mohammed Abbasi. Film-critic Meena Karnik and director Prakash Kunte constituted the Jury.

Festival Director Sudhir Nandgaonkar could not attend the festival due to illness.

He is the India Correspondent of FilmFestivals.com and a member of FIPRESCI, the international Federation of Film Critics, Munich, Germany

Siraj Syed has contributed over 1,015 articles on cinema, international film festivals, conventions, exhibitions, etc., most recently, at IFFI (Goa), MIFF (Mumbai), MFF/MAMI (Mumbai) and CommunicAsia (Singapore). He often edits film festival daily bulletins.

He is also an actor and a dubbing artiste. Further, he has been teaching media, acting and dubbing at over 30 institutes in India and Singapore, since 1984.
