Diorama encouraged by Rahul Rawail, Shaji Karun

Diorama encouraged by Rahul Rawail, Shaji Karun

The first Diorama International Film Festival (DIFF) will be held from the 14th to the 20th of January, 2019, at the Siri Fort Auditoria, New Delhi.

Here’s how and why the organisers came up with this uncommon name:

The word "diorama" originated in 1823 as a type of picture-viewing device, from the French, in 1822. The word literally means "through that which is seen", from the Greek di- "through" + orama "that which is seen, a sight". The diorama was invented by Louis Daguerre and Charles Marie Bouton, first exhibited in Paris in July 1822, and in London on September 29, 1823. The meaning "small-scale replica of a scene, etc." is from 1902. The term Diorama in cinema refers to watching a range of cinema through a perspective.

Supported by the Film Federation of India, the nodal body of all film organisations in India, Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers and the Indian Film Institute, Diorama International Film Festival has the blessings of noted Hindi film director Rahul Rawail (Love Story, Betaab, Arjun, Dacait), who headed the jury for the Indian Panorama at the 49th International Film Festival of India, Goa, 2018, “The Diorama International Film Festival is an exemplary initiative taken by Manoj Srivastava, a veteran head of Film Festivals, and will benefit the International community of all persons involved in film-making. I am honoured to be present in the nascent stage, and am sure that the growth will be unparalleled.”

Internationally renowned and several times National Award-winning film-maker Shaji Karun says, “The visual media resembling cinemas, TVs, social platforms, are increasing like torrential streams, and to guide the intellect of that drive, we need minds ahead of time. Here, the curator for such modes turns like a philosopher. Manoj Srivastava has that wisdom.”
