Santa Cruz Film FestivalSince 2002, the Santa Cruz Film Festival has celebrated innovative and original filmmaking in and for the Greater Monterey Bay community. Over the past nine years, SCFF has screened over 1,100 independent films and videos including scores of quality, locally-produced works to tens of thousands of enthusiastic and dedicated film lovers, generating nearly $1 million in revenue for Santa Cruz. Whether fact or fiction, commercial or avant garde, live action or animation, the Santa Cruz Film Festival celebrates the diverse art of talented filmmakers. SCFF presents artists who create films and videos in all genres from around the world in one of the most thought-provoking, entertaining, fun-filled, educational regional film festivals in the country. The Festival has been proud to not only showcase new creative talents, but to also provide an interactive experience where filmmakers, musicians, performers, artists and the community can come together to share their art and ideas and to have an enlightening and fun time. Santa Cruz Film Festival Announces its Call for EntriesThe Santa Cruz Film Festival (SCFF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the support and promotion of moving image arts in California’s Greater Monterey Bay Area, announces the call for entries for its tenth season, May 5-14, 2011. One of the largest and most prominent cultural events in the Central Coast, SCFF is committed to showcasing new moving image art from around the globe, and blending it with one-of-a-kind interactive experiences featuring local artists, dancers and other live performers. The Festival is also proud to continue the tradition of the former EarthVision Environmental Film Festival, whose operations SCFF assumed control of in 2008. Through the films and events of the EarthVision Environmental Film section, SCFF seeks to raise consciousness about environmental issues, educate people and mobilize support and action. The EarthVision Environmental Film section features an Audience Award and a Jury Prize. Submit online via Withoutabox or download the application from the Festival's website. The deadline for submissions is February 11, 2011, with an early bird discount for entries postmarked by November 19, 2010. Discounted entry fees are also available for works submitted by Santa Cruz and Monterey County filmmakers, students, youth filmmakers (under 18), and entries submitted into EarthVision.
