PARA MINHA AMADA MORTA (To My Beloved) in Competition in San Sebastián

PARA MINHA AMADA MORTA (To My Beloved) by Aly Muritiba will celebrate its European premiere in the Horizontes Latinos Section at the 63rd San Sebastián International Film Festival on September 24th. The film is thus nominated for the Horizontes Award. PARA MINHA AMADA MORTA (To My Beloved) is Aly Muritiba's first feature film and has just been awarded with the Silver Zenith for the First Fiction Feature Film at World Film Festival in Montreal. PARA MINHA AMADA MORTA (To My Beloved) follows his short film A FABRICA which was shortlisted for the Academy Awards and won 60 awards at international film festivals. His short film PATIO was selected for the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. His latest short film TARANTULA was selected for Official Competition in Venice. The script for his first feature-length film TO MY BELOVED received the Global Filmmaking Award at the Sundance Institute.

Synopsis: After the loss of his wife Ana, the forensic photographer Fernando becomes a quiet and introspective man, who raises his son Daniel by himself. Every night, while the boy sleeps, he recalls his love by organising her personal belongings: he irons her dresses, arranges her shoes. One day as he watches one of her VHS tapes, he is struck by seeing her with another man. Fernando decides to get to know his wife's lover, who ruined the image he had of her.

Aly Muritiba's first feature-length film is a dense psychological drama about the path of an unsettled love that unfolds between mementos of the past. It grabs hold of its audience in a relentless suspense that pushes it to the question on how to deal with loss and deception, how to face feelings of hate and though to forgive. Muritiba shows outstanding directing skills and is an emerging talent to be watched.
