Eleven Spanish films make up the Made in Spain section of the San Sebastian Festival

The San Sebastian Festival will present in its Made in Spain section some of the best Spanish productions of the year. The titles programmed for the 63nd edition of the San Sebastian Festival are:

A cambio de nada (Nothing in return)

Daniel Guzmán (Spain)

The winning film at the last Malaga Festival was this feature film debut by Daniel Guzmán. Darío runs away from home to escape from his family nightmare. Luismi, his soulmate, Caralimpia, an old crook with a winner’s pose and Antonia, an elderly lady who collects abandoned furniture with her 3-wheeler van, become his new family.

Las altas presiones (The High Pressures)

Ángel Santos (Spain)

The first film by Ángel Santos won the Nuevas Olas Award at the Seville Festival. Miguel travels to Pontevedra with the mission of finding locations for a film. The journey takes him back to the place he grew up, where he not only finds old friends, but also the opportunity of a new relationship.

El camí més llarg per tornar a casa /The Long Way Home (The Long Way Home)

Sergi Pérez Gómez (Spain)

The first film by Sergi Pérez, starring Borja Espinosa. One morning Joel finds Elvis, his wife’s dog, half dead and thirsty. This obliges him to leave his house, something he’d been trying to avoid for a long time. Having left his keys inside, he will spend the day desperately trying to get back into his home, his refuge.

Hablar (Talk)

Joaquín Oristrell (Spain)

An anthology film with 20 stories linked to one another over a 400-metre stretch: from Madrid’s Lavapiés Square to the Sala Mirador. The characters talk, argue, laugh, cry, threaten, whisper, shout, steal, make dates, get angry with and hug one another, prompting the spectator to reflect on the immense power of words.

Los héroes del mal (The Heroes of Evil)

Zoe Berriatúa (Spain)

Zoe Berriatúa’s first film competed in the official selection of the Malaga Festival. Three teenagers are treated with humiliation and abuse. They find their way out of the nightmare by responding to those who perpetrate the violence with violence, but the ploy turns against them.

Gracia Querejeta (Spain)

In Gracia Querejeta’s last film, Maribel Verdú plays Elia, a woman whose 40th birthday serves as an excuse to gather a few friends and relations at a luxury country house. She wants to tell them something: she’s the sole winner of this week’s EuroMillions jackpot.

Javier Fesser directs a mad-hat adventure reflecting the spirit of the universe created by Francisco Ibañez. Agents Mortadelo and Filemón must put all their wits into failing to solve anything and wreaking havoc wherever they go to discover the whereabouts of Jimmy, a villain with a complex.

Leticia Dolera stars in, writes and directs her feature film debut, winner of Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the Malaga Festival. María is a rather peculiar 30 year-old with an aim in life: to become a normal person. But to succeed, she must first of all find out exactly what it means.

José Mari and Primitivo are two alleged detectives and two out-of-work losers. The unexpected appearance of Gaje, a gypsy trickster pretending to be the King of Spain’s son and offering them an unusual mission, will change their lives... and the country.

The Argentine screenwriter Pablo receives a commission to write a romantic comedy taking place in Madrid. It’s no problem for him, he has plenty of experience with the genre, and we see the first steps in the love story between Marina and Víctor. But suddenly Pablo is hit with a crisis. A film that garnered the Best Actor Award for Ernesto Alterio at the Malaga Festival.

Torrente 5: Misión Eurovegas

Santiago Segura (Spain)

The latest adventure of the “hero” created and played by Santiago Segura. Torrente is released from jail in 2018 and decides to become an “outlaw”. He seeks out John Marshall, head of security at the EuroVegas casino-hotel, and assembles a group of “specialists” for the heist of the century.
