Golden Globes Get Shined Up for 2014 & Kevin Bacon is Game

by Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent

There are many reasons to wonder silently about the HFPA and their Golden Globe Awards, uhm, maybe the NSA knows more than some of us. (But not likely.) Last year Theo Kingma took the helm, and most of us hoped for the best after the sale to Peter Guber and friends.

What if the HFPA, founded in 1947, came back to its core directive as a charitable institution and gathering place for international journalists in Hollywood?
Once were they the real Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), fresh from the chaos of World War II with a vision for a brave new world of writing.
Years went by, allegations. Internal strife piled up, and then faded. Reappeared, faded. Maybe they got lazy?
Enter the Digital Age Deluge of content where the learning curve is steep and that old laziness (read: fuzzy bylines) just won't cut it.
Here's to hoping they have cleaned house and will make this talent proud to be there. The presenters are: KEVIN BACON, JULIE BOWEN, LAURA DERN, ROBERT DOWNEY JR., JIMMY FALLON, COLIN FARRELL, MILA KUNIS, JENNIFER LAWRENCE, UMA THURMAN and REESE WITHERSPOON TO PRESENT AT THE 71ST ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE® AWARDS ON JANUARY 12, 2014! (Excuse the CAPS, ps, for enthusiasm.)

This is HFPA's Official quick read:

"HOLLYWOOD, CA, January 6, 2014 – Kevin Bacon (2010 Golden Globe Award winner;
1995,1997 Golden Globe Award nominee), Julie Bowen, Laura Dern (2012, 2009, 1993
Golden Globe Award winner; 1999, 1992 Golden Globe Award nominee; 1982 Miss. Golden
Globe), Robert Downey Jr. (2010, 2001, 1994 Golden Globe winner; 2009, 1993 Golden Globe
Award nominee), Jimmy Fallon, Colin Farrell (2009 Golden Globe Award winner), Mila Kunis
(2011 Golden Globe Award nominee), Jennifer Lawrence (2014 Golden Globe Award nominee
for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture; 2013 Golden
Globe Award winner; 2011 Golden Globe Award nominee), Uma Thurman (2003 Golden Globe
Award winner; 2005, 2004, 1995 Golden Globe Award nominee) and Reese Witherspoon
(2006 Golden Globe Award winner; 2002, 2000 Golden Globe Award nominee) are the first set
of presenters announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for the 71st
Annual Golden Globe Awards."
