Palm SpringsThe Palm Springs International Film Festival plays host to a fabulous array of movies and movie stars. The Festival features a stellar line-up of more than 175 films from 60 countries, special events and gala receptions. The Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films has become known world-wide for the extraordinary community of filmmakers it attracts, and for the quality and scope of its programming. The 27th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) hosted the 2nd annual two-day symposium “The Power of Words: Book to Screen,” curated by Barbara Keller and Susan Rosser. The event took place on Thursday, January 7 at the Hilton Palm Springs. During the event, authors were joined by producers, stars and screenwriters in sessions moderated by well-known film and literary critics in addition to other distinguished leaders. “Book to Screen” participants included screenwriter Phyllis Nagy (Carol), author Dick Lehr (Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a Devil’s Deal), author Jeffrey Toobin (The Run of His Life: The People vs. O.J. Simpson), screenwriter David Nicholls (Far From the Madding Crowd), TV show creator Darren Starr and author Pamela Redmond Satran (Younger), author David Ebershoff and screenwriter Lucinda Coxon (The Danish Girl). Select films from the “Book to Screen” program screened at the festival the day before, on Wednesday, January 6. For more information on “Book to Screen,” visit www.psfilmfest.org/booktoscreen.
