I am thrilled and looking forward to seeing the Doors by Oliver Stone on a big screen again. Than you Cannes Classics, thank you Thierry Fremaux... I had had so much fun working on the french release for Sony Pictures. This, above, was our special poster designed for France. It was  inspired the fantastic teaser trailer, I found the trailer so powerful that I asked Publicis, our ad agency, to work on a poster focused on the final scene where Jim is about to disolve in bright light: The c...

40th Manaki Brothers Cinematographers International FilmFestival

September 14 to 21 September in Bitola, Macedonia

Now accepting submissions for the 40th edition of ICFF “Manaki Brothers”

The International Cinematographers’ Film Festival “MANAKI BROTHERS”, is the first and oldest international film festival dedicated to the creativity of cinematographers across the world. It started in 1979 at the initiative of one of the main founders-AFPM/the Association of Film Professionals of Macedonia (which also marks its 65 jubilee this year), and was co-organized with the host-city of Bitola and the Cinematheque of Macedonia, established in honor and inspired by the abundant photographic/cinematographic opus of the MANAKI brothers: Yanaki (1878-1954) and Milton (1880-1964), whose 135 birth anniversary is to be celebrated this year as well. Thus, naturally, the cornerstones of the future festival were laid, in the town at the foot of Pelister, the City of Consuls - Bitola, where the Manaki brothers had their photo-studio and cinema theater.

IFFLA reviews: SHAZAMmmmm -- Taken for a ride!

image3_2.jpeg

By Alex Deleon"Taken for a ride" --
... is the perfect summing up of this celluloid debacle which some of the unenlightened masses will probably enjoy. Read the Comic Book and forget the picture.

However, I saw  an amazingly good tongue in cheek Indian thriller last night, entitled "Blindly" -- about a blind piano virtuoso who isn't really blind  and stumbles into a series of killings he pretends not to see, with a most gorgeous older actress with the intriguing name of TABU.

She and the director were there to discuss the film on stage after the screening....

World Book Day & College Cheating Scandal Had a Love Child, BOOKSMART

booksmart-BS_00965_RC_rgb-1030x687.jpg

by Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent

Apologies for that misleading and crass headline, but it worked, right? BOOKSMART is actually Olivia Wilde’s directorial film debut from Annapurna that opens on Memorial Day, May 27. And it’s as wild as you would suppose it would be, in a good way. “From the beginning, my take on the story was that high school has extremely high stakes,” notes director Olivia Wilde. “When you’re in it, high school feels like life or death. I wanted to approach this film the same way a director would approach a high-octane action movie.”

Avengers, Endgame: Thanostradamus

Avengers%2C%20Endgame_0.jpg

by Siraj Syed

As star casts go, Avengers: Endgame runs up a mind-boggling score. Like in theatrical performances, where all characters come on to the stage after the performance to take a bow, Endgame brings them all on screen, even resurrecting the dead, in a show of ultimate strength, before their nemesis is vanquished. Just as it takes two lives to conquer the dark force, the dark force itself needs to be conquered not once but twice. It is ingenious writing, to lay out the entire Avengers smorgasbord in their 10th year, 22nd film, 56th year since the appearance of the first Avengers comics and over 1,000 years after the genesis of the superhero fiction myth that kicked off during the time of Thor....

The documentary film «THE MYSTERY OF A BURYAT LAMA», directed by Elena Demidova, tells a story of one of the most famous lamas, Pandido Khambo Lama Dashi Dorzho Itigelov. Itigelov was born in 1852 and began his religious education at the age of sixteen years. In 1911, he was appointed the twelfth Pandido Khambo Lama as the Head of Russian Buryat Buddhists. Between 1913 and 1917, Itigelov was prominent in the spiritual life of Russian Empire. He took part in the Tercentenary celebrations of the House Romanov and opened first Buddhist temple in St. Petersburg. During First World War Itigelov presided over the society of "Buryat brothers", an organization helping the Russian army. After October Revolution, Itigelov resigned as head of the Buddhists. In 1927, aged seventy-five years, he asked other lamas to begin meditation ceremonies and funeral rites, since he said he was about to die. Itigelov left a testament asking to be buried as he was at the time of his death, sitting in lotus posture. On September 11, 2002, Itigelov's body was eventually exhumed in the presence of the leaders of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia and transferred to Ivolginsky Datsan.

THE CREEPY LINE a film by M.A.Taylor 2018

"A film that Google does not want you to see  - filmfestivals.com Best for Fest"

An eye-opening documentary, The Creepy Line reveals the stunning degree to which society is manipulated by Google and Facebook and blows the lid off the remarkably subtle – hence powerful – manner in which they do it.

The Creepy Line is a title culled from the words of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, when during a 2010 interview he explained Google’s code of conduct: “The Google policy on a lot of things is to get right up to the creepy line and not cross it.”

However, as Dr. Robert Epstein explains in the film, “Google crosses the creepy line every day”.

Offering first-hand accounts, scientific experiments and detailed analysis, The Creepy Line examines what is at risk when these two tech titans have free reign to utilize the public’s most private and personal data to manipulate society.

There is no question that the “creepy line” is getting ever-creepier, and that the tech giants have crossed it.

Les raisins de la colère (The Grapes of Wrath) de John Ford (USA, 1940)

Les_Raisins_de_la_colere.jpg
