The New York International Film Festival (NYIFF) today announced that it will host the New York Premiere of horror film The Traveler starring Val Kilmer (Batman Forever, The Doors) on Saturday April 30 at 8pm at the Quad Cinema (34 West 13th Street). Other cast members include Dylan Neal (Babylon 5, 40 Days and 40 Nights), Paul McGillion (Stargate: Atlantis, See Grace Fly) and Camille Sullivan.
Directed by South African award-winning filmmaker and documentarian Michael Oblowitz (Sea of Darkness), The Traveler tells the story of a stranger (Kilmer) who enters a precinct on Christmas eve and tells the Desk Sergeant Gulloy that he had murdered six people. Detective Alexander Black arrests the man in a cell and Deputy Jerry Pine, Deputy Jane Hollow, Deputy Toby Sherwood and Deputy Jack Hawkins are not able to identify him since the stranger does not have fingerprints. They call him Mr. Nobody and Deputy Hawkins recalls that he resembles the haired drifter that they had arrested and tortured one year ago, when the daughter of Detective Black had vanished. As the night progresses Mr. Nobody confesses to each murder and whistles Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem, each deputy dies. Sooner Detective Black discovers that Mr. Nobody is a revengeful spirit that has come to kill them for what they did to the drifter one year ago and they are doomed to die.
"We are delighted to screen The Traveler as part of the horror film lineup, said NYIFF's Stuart Alson. The plot, characters, direction and production value were impressive; Val Kilmer as Mr. Nobody was outstanding and a huge coup for Oblowitz. "Alson continued "I am sure that all our New York indie horror lovers will love it."
Michael Oblowitz commented, " The Traveler is my first collaboration with Val Kilmer and we are scheduled to do a sequel later this year. I studied film in the graduate program at Columbia University New York, where I received my M.F.A. I lived in Manhattan for 20 years so to screen my film at a festival in New York City is a a great honor."
