Cannes 75 Frère et Soeur press conference with director Arnaud Desplechin, actress Marion Cotillard et cast, Sketch by Nesta '22

After the screening of Frère et Soeur, feature film in competition at The 75th edition of Cannes Film Festival 2022 (Why Not Productions and Arte France Cinema FR), there was a 5 minute standing ovation. It would appear that Chekhov's own words "There is nothing new in art except talent" resound for this event!

Frère et Soeur, a story of an actress and a teacher poet who no longer speak to each other, the film is perceived as a caricature of french cinema, they are forced to cross paths through tragedy, Chekhov style.

At the press conference for cast and crew present for the festival, the shape of talent evolve around the director at centre of sketch Arnaud Desplechin  with actors Marion Cotillard and Benjamin Siksou, Melvil Poupaud, Cosmina Stratan, Philippe Rouyer, Patrik Timsit. Desplechin directs the conference with a rigour plus plus, it's about winning distance between characters, being the explorer to garner distance, to create "Plaisir a moment", like Chekhov and being curieux.

I enjoy the phrase below which offers a shimmer of light over Desplechin's methods of direction:

"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass" (Chekhov)

Enjoy!

Nesta
