Music, films and utopia by Emir Kusturica at home in his village promoting Serbian culture and folklore!
 
Under the patronage of multi-award winning director Emir Kusturica and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia the 12th edition of KUSTENDORF FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL (has been held at Drvengrad - Mokra Gora,Serbia from January 11-16, 2019)
Aimed at rewarding future generations of filmmakers as well as providing master classes with established talents, the festival is a by-invitation only event with 6 segments:

1. COMPETITION PROGRAMME (in which students films from all over the world will be awarded with a Gold, Silver or Bronze Egg, depending of the jury’s choice)
2. RETROSPECTIVE OF GREATNESS
3. CONTEMPORARY TRENDS
4. MUSIC PROGRAMME

Students or self-taught non-released filmmakers can submit a film (under 45 minutes of duration) on any genre for consideration to the competition programme.

The films should be sent in a DVD with English subtitles (if the original language is not English) and on a separate CD the following shall be included:

In word format:
- short synopsis including film duration
- short director biography
- cast (director, editor, director of photography, editor, screenplay, producer)
- at least two (2) stills – one of the director and crew and one still image of the film in JPEG, GIFF or PDF.

Emir Kusturica celebrates his 12th edition at Kustendorf

  KUSTENDORF INTERNATIONAL FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL

11 – 16th of JANUARY, MECAVNIK, SERBIA

 

Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival will be held from 11 to 16th of January in Mecavnik, Mokra Gora, Serbia. Kustendorf festival, whose founder and artistic director Emir Kusturica as in previous years will be dedicated to young filmmakers and world acclaimed authors.

 

The competition program of the 12th International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf will consist of twenty-one films by domestic and foreign authors. The films of young directors from Switzerland, Australia, Serbia, Norway, Republic of Srpska, Poland, Russia, Israel, France, Germany, Iran, Mexico, Spain, Macedonia, Turkey and the Philippines will compete for the Golden, Silver and Bronze Egg festival awards.

 

International jury consists of: Kata Stanić, actress, Slobodan Despot, publisher and writer of Serbian origin who writes in French, and Tankrede Ramonet, French director of documentary films and producer of audiovisual content. “Vilko Filac” for the best photo will be awarded by the French director of photography Michel Amathieu.

 

We received 718 films, and the films were selected according to style, technical skill and authentic view of the world. The competition program of the twelfth Kustendorf will be fifteen feature-length, three documentaries, two animated and one experimental short film.

The programme entitled “Contemporary Trends” will include some of the best films from last year, while their authors will hold workshops after the screenings.

The opening of the festival will feature Emir Kusturica's film "El Pepe, Una Vida Suprema", a documentary dedicated to José Mujica. The film "Happy as Lazaro", the Italian director Alice Rohrwacher, winner of the best scenario at the festival in Cannes, will be featured also in “Contemporary Trends”. The film will be presented by actors Adriano Tardiolo, Sergi López and Luca Chikovani.

 

On the third day, the films "Close Enemies" and "A Gentle Indifference of the World" will be presented by directors David Oelhoffen and Adilkhan Yerzhanov. Marcello Fonte will be guest on the fourth day and will present the film "Dogman" by the director Mateo Garone. Wim Wenders' film "Pope Francis: A Man of His Word" will be shown on the fifth day, and a producer Andrea Gambetta will speak with students. The brothers Damiano & Fabio D'Inocenzo will talk about their movie "Boys Cry" on the last festival day.

 

Within the program “RETROSPECTIVE OF GREATNESS” will be shown the film "Drugstor Cowboy" by Gas Van Sant, and the guest of the festival will be actor Mat Dillon. The guests of the festival will be the actors Slavko Štimac and Sergio Lopez, while the films "Vuk samotnjak" by Gluščević, "Sjećaš li se Doli Bel?" by Emir Kusturica and "Western" by Manuel Poirier are selected from their rich filmography.

NEW AUTORS will present the first feature film by Montenegro director Ivan Salatić "You have a night".

KUSTENDORF PRESENTS - Kustendorf Festival will present the film "Game Girls" of director Alina Skrzeszewska as part of the accompanying program.

During the festival in the gallery "Kapor" will be presented an exhibition of an academic painter Ratko Lalic, and a part of the festival program is an exhibition of photographs on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the High School of Film, Television and Theater from Lodz. Also, in Andrictown will be organized an exhibition of paintings and mosaics of academic painter Bisenija Terescenko.

 

MUSIC PROGRAM - Every evening, after projections and workshops, concerts of musical groups will complete the recognizable night life of Kustendorf. Guests of Kustendorf will enjoy the performances of the "Orchestra of folk music of the brothers Advahov Valeriju" and the "Caskaval & Cristi Traktor" from Moldova, the Italian musician Vinicio Capossela, the Dutch-Serbian ensemble "Jovan Pavlovic and Marko Markovic brass band", the “Kal” group from Serbia and vocal-instrumental ensemble "Bilja Krstic and Bistrik Orchestra".

Since the establishment in 2007 until now, the Kustendorf underwent numerous young artists who have been left a significant mark on the author film scene as the best proof that the aim of this festival, the development of auteur film and support young talented directors, each year more and more realized.

About Kustendorf Film and Music Festival


The Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival was founded in 2008 with the idea to bring together the icons of contemporary author’s cinema and young, future filmmakers. The festival takes place every year in January in Drvengrad in Mokra Gora, organized by “Rasta International” and under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. The founder of this unique film and music festival is celebrated film director Emir Kusturica.

Kustendorf is a unique festival, without red carpet, billboards and advertisements, fully devoted to film, music, friendships and exchange of creative ideas and energy.

Drvengrad, the town made of wood, is the center of all festival happenings. It is a place where films are screened, concerts performed, where people meet, make friends, fall in love, work, learn, rest, sleep, eat, think and enjoy. Like any other town, Drvengrad has a central square with the church of St. Sava, a library, an art gallery, a market, a kindergarten, a “prison”, a swimming pool, a sauna, a hair salon, a pastry shop, a grocery shop, a sports area, cinemas, restaurants and many other facilities that make the visit to the Festival an unforgettable experience.

Film programme

The film programme at Kustendorf Festival is screened in several theatres. The Competition Programme and the Contemporary Trends Programme is screened at the biggest, Damned Yard theatre. Other films are shown in the Noam Chomsky amphitheater. After the projections of films,  workshops are held by renowned film authors.

Music program

Every night at midnight, after the screenings and workshops, various music stars perform on stage.

Accommodation

No two rooms are alike in Drvengrad, since each room contains uniquely painted and handcrafted furniture, a different view and a different path leading to it. The rooms are located in authentic log cabins and all provide a bathroom, TV, phone and Internet access. During the Festival,  accommodation in Drvengrad is booked for guests and participants of Kustendorf.  Guests are also accommodated in hotel Iver in a newly opened ski resort, and Vizitorski centar, in close proximity of the village.
