International Film Festival Rotterdam

Combining within its organisation the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Hubert Bals Fund and co-production market CineMart, IFFR offers a launching pad and supportive platform for innovative and talented independent filmmakers.

CineMart completes line-up for 32nd edition

Projects from award winning filmmakers from around the world including USA, India, UK, Spain and Argentina

International Film Festival Rotterdam’s (IFFR) co-production market, CineMart, has completed its line-up of titles for the upcoming 2015 event. The line-up consists of titles from filmmakers from across the world including the Netherlands, India, United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Spain and the USA. The selection also includes three Art:Film projects. CineMart provides filmmakers the opportunity to launch their projects to the international film industry and connects these filmmakers with financiers and producers looking to invest in international cinema with the potential to reach international audiences. Filmmakers selected to take part this year include award winning Indian New Wave director Ashim Ahluwalia, whose highly acclaimed film MISS LOVELY screened in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 and will be presenting his new feature project BOYFRIEND. Argentinian director Benjamin Naishtat, from Argentina, whose film HISTORIA DEL MIEDO screened In Competition at this year’s Berlin Film Festival will be presenting his new project ROJO and Fellipe Barbosa who screened his first feature CASA GRANDE in IFFR’s 2014 Hivos Tiger Awards Competition will be presenting his next feature GABRIEL AND THE MOUNTAIN.
CineMart will run from January 25th to 28th as part of International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) which runs from January 21st to February 1st.
All selected titles qualify for three awards, The Eurimages Co-production Development Award of €20,000, The Arte International Price of €7,000 and the inaugural Wouter Barendrecht Award of €5,000 which is awarded by CineMart in conjunction with Fortissimo Films, the Netherlands/Hong Kong based international sales agent of which Barendrecht was founder and co-chairman.
Five of the selected titles, BOYFRIEND (Ashim Ahluwalia), CACTUS FLOWER (Hala Elkoussy), ROJO (Benjamin Naishtat), LUXEMBOURG (Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy) and SANTA Y DELFIN (Carlos Lechuga) were all previous recipients of funding via IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund (HBF) while several fillmmakers whose projects have been selected for CineMart have also had films selected for the 2015 IFFR programme. Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy will be presenting THE TRIBE in Limelight, Syllas Tzoumerkas (THE MIRACLE OF THE SARGASSO SEA) will present A BLAST, also in Limelight, and Khavn (ONLY THE DEAD HAVE SEEN THE END OF WAR) will be in Rotterdam to present DESAPARADISO in Spectrum Premieres.
On making the announcement Marit van den Elshout, Head of Industry and CineMart, commented “We are very happy with this year’s line-up. The programme is packed with incredibly talented filmmakers and projects with high potential. The projects offer a wide variety in storytelling, tone and cinematographic approach and present some great discoveries. All the projects are in the right stage to attach financiers and are ready for the international market. We cannot wait to connect these filmmakers with their right potential partners and assist them further in their development.

CineMart was the first platform of its kind to offer filmmakers the opportunity to launch their projects to the international film industry and to be connected with appropriate industry executives to secure financing. Launching 24 new projects in need of additional financing, CineMart also heralds an important start of the film year. Every year, the CineMart invites a select number of directors/producers to present their film projects to co-producers, bankers, funds, sales agents, distributors, TV stations and other potential financiers.
Rotterdam Lab
Concurrent with CineMart the Rotterdam Lab takes place, a five-day training workshop for young and emerging producers designed to build up their international network and their experience at an international festival and market. Participation in the Rotterdam Lab provides young producers with the confidence and skills to navigate the festival circuit and meet the professionals who can help finance their projects.

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art. The festival's Tiger Awards Competitions, Bright Future, Spectrum and Limelight sections contain new work by auteurs from all over the world including many World Premieres. In the Signals section, IFFR presents retrospectives and themed programmes. IFFR actively supports new and adventurous filmmaking talent through numerous industry initiatives including co-production market CineMart, its Hubert Bals Fund and Rotterdam Lab.
