Nominees for the 40th edition of the Goya Awards

The Spanish Film Academy announced this Tuesday the nominees for the 40th edition of the Goya Awards, which will be presented on February 28 in Barcelona. Actress Toni Acosta and actor and producer Arturo Valls were responsible for unveiling the contenders in the 28 categories from the headquarters of the Spanish Film Academy, at an event overseen by notary Eva Fernández Medina.

With 13 nominations, Los Domingos is the most nominated film, followed by Sirât, with 11 chances to take home an award. Maspalomas has received nine nominations and La cena eight; meanwhile, Sorda, El cautivo, and Los Tigres have each earned seven nominations. Romería has secured six nominations, and Ciudad sin sueño has received five.

La cena, directed by Manuel Gómez Pereira; Los Domingos, directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa; Maspalomas, directed by Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga; Sirât, directed by Oliver Laxe; and Sorda, directed by Eva Libertad, will compete for the Goya Award for Best Film.

The Goya Award for Best Director will be contested by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa for Los Domingos; Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga for Maspalomas; Carla Simón for Romería; Oliver Laxe for Sirât; and Albert Serra for Tardes de soledad.

Competing for the Goya Award for Best Actress are Ángela Cervantes for La furia; Patricia López Arnaiz for Los Domingos; Antonia Zegers for Los tortuga; Nora Navas for Mi amiga Eva; and Susana Abaitua for Un fantasma en la batalla.

Alberto San Juan for La cena; Miguel Garcés for Los Domingos; Jose Ramon Soroiz for Maspalomas; Mario Casas for Muy lejos; and Manolo Solo for Una quinta portuguesa are nominated for the Goya Award for Best Actor.

Ion de Sosa for Balearic; Jaume Claret Muxart for Estrany riu; Gemma Blasco for La furia; Gerard Oms for Muy lejos; and Eva Libertad for Sorda are nominated in the Best New Director category.

The announcement was broadcast live on the Goya Awards’ YouTube channel.

Actor Luis Tosar and singer, songwriter, and actress Rigoberta Bandini will host the 2026 Goya Awards, which will take place on February 28 at the Auditori Fòrum CCIB in Barcelona, where filmmaker Gonzalo Suárez will receive the 2026 Goya Honorary Award. Prior to the ceremony, the traditional nominees’ gathering will be held on February 2 in Madrid.
