Zero Gravity delivers heavy impact at the world premiere in Cinequest and great reviews

The feature documentary debut from Thomas Verrette got very positive feedback and some great reviews at the world premiere in Cinequest.

The festival offered 111 World and U.S. Premiere Films; 950 presenting Artists and Innovators; 55 Special Events & Parties; 60 Creative Experiences. Zero Gravity was rated in top twelve with a very inspiring review  by local paper the Mercury News. Festival co-founder Halfdan Hussey commented "We’re excited to showcase the movie, Bruno! And it’s from our Silicon Valley town here..." Many scenes were shot in San Jose...

“Zero Gravity”: Campbell Middle School’s innovative Zero Robotics program gets thrust in the spotlight in director Thomas Verrette’s inspirational documentary, filmed primarily in the South Bay. Verrette takes a “Spellbound”-like approach, focusing primarily on three students, Makayla Engelder, Advik Gonugunta and Carol Gonzalez as they participate in Tanner Marcoida’s class. The goal is to create code that will program satellites, and then participate in a NASA-sponsored competition where astronauts will put the programs to the test. Verrette’s mission isn’t limited to outer-space pursuits, and he carves out time to meet the parents and to reflect on the Bay Area’s diversity and the challenges that immigrants trying to make a living encounter here. It’s a winner.

Randy Myers The Mercury News : "the 12 movies to watch at Cinequest"

About the film:

Zero Gravity follows a diverse group of middle-school students from San Jose, CA, who compete in a nationwide tournament to code satellites aboard the International Space Station. Seen through the wondrous eyes of three young students and their first-time coach, they each take an intimate and personal journey to space as their team grows from amateur coders to representing California in the ISS Finals Tournament -- the culmination of a summer-long adventure that sees their incredible accomplishment performed by astronauts in orbit. A special conversation with the film artists and subjects follows the screening of the film.
THIS FILM IS PRESENTED IN HONOR OF JIM BOYCE.
