World premiere of Anna Odell's X&Y to open Stockholm International Film Festival

Stockholm International Film Festival proudly announces this year’s opening film, Anna Odell’s highly anticipated X&Y, starring herself as the crazy artist and Mikael Persbrandt as the unrestrained alpha male in the leading roles. The film also stars Vera Vitali, Shanti Roney, Sofie Gråbøl, Trine Dyrholm, Jens Albinus and Thure Lindhardt.

Anna Odell’s critically acclaimed feature debut, The Reunion, had its Nordic premiere at Stockholm International Film Festival in 2013 and has since then been celebrated across the world. The film won two Guldbagge awards for Best Film and Best Screenplay, and was awarded at Venice Film Festival.

— The anticipations for Odell’s second feature film are high and we are so thrilled that X&Y will have its world premiere during our opening night, says Git Scheynius, executive director of Stockholm International Film Festival.

In X&Y, Anna Odell questions and challenges the views that exist of herself and Persbrandt in media. Together they deconstruct themselves and their habitual roles, and embark on a game without rules where they use people around them to examine patterns of sexual behavior, gender roles, characteristics and human truths.

As Odell and Persbrandt begin to get to know each other, they create their own alter egos and use three actors each to act out and highlight their different characteristics.

X&Y is a film that explores identity, male vs female. It is a game of both fiction and reality, a controlled examination of what it means to be human in a time of infinite media. I am so excited for the film to meet the public and to show it during the opening night of Stockholm International Film Festival, says Anna Odell.

X&Y is competing in this year’s Stockholm XXIX Competition and will have its world premiere at the official opening of Stockholm International Film Festival on Wednesday, November 7th.

Tickets will be released on Friday, September 28th, at http://stockholmfilmfestival.se/.

X&Y is distributed by TriArt Film and will open in cinemas across Sweden on November 23, 2018.
The film is produced by Mattias Nohrborg and Frida Bargo, B-Reel Films.
