VIDEO: Jim Gianopulos, head of Paramount, offered a very smart masterclass during LAGFFGreek connections at their best: Angeliki Giannakopoulos (LAGFF co founder) conducted a very high level interview (Zoom) with Jim Gianopulos Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO.
Jim is a second-generation Greek-American, Gianopulos oversees the studio’s film and television operations worldwide, including production, marketing, distribution and all other facets. Gianopulos has been a leading figure in the global entertainment industry for more than 30 years. Previously he served as Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, overseeing Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox International Productions and Twentieth Century Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios. He began his career as an attorney specializing in entertainment law. The Masterclass with JIM GIANOPULOS took place this wednesday October 14th, in front of a zoom audience of 90+ participants Jim was my boss when I was running Fox in France, the one who hired me to merge FOX and UGC distribution in France. we made it a success even though the line up was quite mediocre those years under my tenure. Jim seemed very happy to share his vast experience, with humility. Also, as a personal note, I found it funny to hear how he changed perspectives about global versus local in the past 20 years. He mentionned it was important to think global and act local, the exact opposite of hois statement in LA adressing all executives running Fox around the world. His words then sounded scary "...this is the way we will run the studio: we, in LA, design the strategy you guys IMPLEMENT AND EXECUTE. I was shocked as a strong believer of the importance of beeing able to adapt international campaigns locally (which I had done with lots of success when I was at Sony, making Baron Munchausen, Strinking Distance, Mr Jones... big hits while they were terrible flops worldwide). I also remember Jim telling WHAT IF... you were wrong?...What can you answer back?
