To be streamed, or not to be streamed? That is the question
It’s not just about getting your film on a screen, it’s about projecting messages that matter. |

At the Zurich Summit, hear from leading visionaries including Jonathan King and Jennifer Fox, who have mastered the art of impactful storytelling. As the President of Narrative Film and Television at Participant Media, Jonathan King is driven by the company’s mission to provide entertainment that inspires and compels social change. Similarly, renowned producer, director and writer Jennifer Fox follows this mantra of sharing impactful stories with the world. Her recent project “The Tale” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year to audience and critical acclaim, with IndieWire calling it, “an immense, brave, and genuinely earth-shaking self-portrait,” and The Guardian calling it, “an innovative, honest and important film.” |

WORD ON THE STREET:
To be streamed, or not streamed?
That is the question.
Or at least that’s the question running through the mind of Black Bear Pictures’ President & CEO, Teddy Schwarzman, who spoke at our Script to Screen Summit last week. During his keynote conversation, Schwarzman admitted that when reviewing new scripts, his company is suddenly, and increasingly asking whether Netflix and other streamers are better options for a project than a traditional theatrical release. Even with Black Bear’s latest project, ‘Ben Is Back’, which premiered at TIFF, there was “a substantial offer from Netflix.” While that would have been the most successful thing financially, Teddy adds that, “we all made this for a reason and we think it deserves to be seen in theaters.”
