The Lumière festival 2020 confirmed for October 10-18

The Lumière festival 2020 will take place from Saturday the 10th to Sunday the 18th of October in the movie theatres of Lyon and its metropolis.

The festival’s International Classic Film Market (MIFC), which brings together cinema professionals every year, will welcome participants to its 8th edition from Tuesday the 13th to Friday the 16th of October.

This year’s festival will be an opportunity for the Lumière Institute to celebrate, alongside Jacques and Stéphane Audiard, the centenary of Michel Audiard, accompanied by a retrospective featuring many prints restored for the occasion and a series of publications, including a work on Audiard/Simenon, issued as part of the Lumière Institut / Actes Sud collection.

Among the much-anticipated highlights of the 2020 programme, the Lumière festival will pay homage to the work of American director Clarence Brown (1890-1987).

The 12th recipient of the Lumière Award, as well as all the curated retrospectives and special guests of this edition, will be revealed in the weeks ahead. In 2019, the Lumière Award was bestowed upon Francis Ford Coppola, in his (magnificent) presence and in the presence of Bong Joon-ho.

Last year, 200,000 festivalgoers attended Lumière. This October, the operations and advancement of the festival will be carried out in accordance with the possibilities and constraints related to the global health crisis experienced since the spring of 2020.

The Lumière festival is looking forward to welcoming the artists, audiences, professionals, journalists, volunteers and exhibitors as well as the public and private partners who have supported the festival since its inception, allowing Lumière to become one of the world’s foremost events of classic cinema.

See you soon!
