The 5th edition of DocPoint coming soon in Helsinki

The 5th edition of DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival takes place in January 25-29th, 2006. Let’s celebrate!

NEW FINNISH DOCUMENTARIES

DocPoint screens a selection of the best new Finnish documentary films every year. For our 5th edition, 18 films were selected to the programme. The selction was made by a preselction jury.

Films chosen to the programme are:

Y in Vyborg by Pia Andell (50 min)
The Seal by Miia Tervo (9 min)
Jaruzelski – A General’s Purgatory by Martti Puukko (50 min) The Queue by Kimmo Yläkäs (13 min) Over the Ice by Seppo Rustanius (52 min) Keijupuisto – Home of the Homeless by Miia Jonkka (45 min) Paper Promises (by several directors) (98 min) Cosmic Play by Jouni Hiltunen (73 min) Hoda’s Story by Johan Eriksson (51 min) Take Me to Your Arms by Rostislav Aalto (84 min) Pavlov’s Dogs by Arto Halonen (68 min) Trucker, My Father by Annika Grof (18 min) Santtu Karhu – The Karelian Rocker by Esa Nissi (29 min) Dreams Episode IV by Pekka Uotila (4 min) The Campaign by Pasi Riiali, Mikko Peltonen (50 min) Väinö Auer (1895-1981) by Mikko Piela (75 min)

The members of the jury were member of parliament Eva Biaudet, actress Elsa Saisio, film director and architect Georg Grotenfelt, film director John Webster and DocPoint’s artistic director Kristina Schulgin. All films chosen in New Finnish Documentaries programme are available in DOCview Videotheque during the festival.


VISITING JAPAN AND PORTUGAL

In the international programme DocPoint will reach out to Japan and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival with a programme of 12 new and classic Japanese documentaries. A programme focusing on Portugal will present seven recent Portuguese documentary in a selection prepared in cooperation with Doclisboa.


APOLLO AWARD

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the festival, DocPoint launches a new award alongside The Aho & Soldan Lifetime Achievement Award. The new Apollo Award will be handed to a Finnish individual or organization contributing remarkably to Finnish documentary film. The award is named after the first documentary film production company in Finland, Ateljee Apollo, founded in 1904. The first award-winner will be announced in January. The past winners of the Aho & Soldan Award are film directors Markku Lehmuskallio, Lasse Naukkarinen, Pirjo Honkasalo and Peter von Bagh.
