Spirit And Ideals at Berlinale Panorama

The Panorama section of the 52nd Berlinale has now confirmed two thirds of
its Main Program, the Panorama Dokumente and the Panorama Special. With productions
selected from over 1500 films, 26 nations will be participating this year. France,
the USA, Germany and Japan are focal points. Eastern Europe, South America and
other countries in Asia are also well represented. In Panorama well known directors
as well as newcomers are presented.

Certain topics are in the air worldwide, such as the spirit and the ideals
of the Seventies - and in keeping with the times, they find pragmatic, hedonistic
and often disillusioned expression; or the life concept promising untouchability
felt by a couple wrapped up in their own universe, marginalizing the world around.
In this year's program music plays a central or significant role in a number
of productions by celebrated filmmakers such as Tony Gatlif, Lynne Stopkewich
and Mika Kaurismäki.

The directors and actors of nearly all these works are expected to attend the
Berlinale. Here, the "Cinema d'auteur" has a long standing tradition.
The main programme features a maximum of 20 titles. The programme is focussed
on assisting the participating professionals to find their crop for the upcoming
arthouse season in Europe and beyond.
