Reykjavik International Film Festival, RIFF, kicks off today,

Reykjavik International Film Festival, RIFF, kicks off today, Thursday 24th of September for the 17th time and runs until the 4th of October.

Guests will be able to watch selected screenings in Bíó Paradís and The Nordic House while also being able to enjoy high quality cinema online with RIFF @home.
This year we screen 110 films at RIFF including feature films, documentaries and various shorts from 47 countries. Bringing films directly from the world´s famous film festivals such as Cannes, San Sebastian and Locarno among many more.
The opening ceremony will be held tonight at Háskólabíó with the premiere of the Hero’s Journey to the Third Pole by Anní Ólafsdóttir and Andri Snær Magnason. Speeches will be held by Hrönn Marinósdóttir, director of RIFF, Dagur B. Eggertsson, Mayor of Reykjavík city, who will also declare the festival open and Lucie Samcov, ambassador of the European union in Iceland. The annual Hátíðargusa, speech of behalf of filmmakers, will be held by Björg Magnúsdóttir, TV-host and screen writer.
We will do everything at RIFF to keep a very high safety standard and measures. At Bíó Paradís fewer tickets will be sold for each screening to ensure safe distance between people. We would kindly like to emphasize the importance of personal safety measures and ask people to act sensibly. Guests are instructed to bring and wear masks to all screenings and events.
