New competition of the Black Nights highlights feature debuts from Baltic Sea Region

Feature debuts from the Baltic and Nordic countries compete in the the new Tridens Herring competition programme judged by an international jury, among others Kiki Sugino. Tridens Herring feature debut competition replaces the previous Baltic competition aiming to present young talent from around the Baltic Sea. „In the recent years many young and interesting film makers have emerged in the Baltic film industry, who are up to a comparison even in the context of very strong film countries. That's why we decided that the previous Baltic programme needs to be extended,“ explains festival director Tiina Lokk. Films from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will compete with entries from Poland, Russia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Norway and Finland. The best debut feature will be awarded a prize of 5000 €. Tridens Herring competition programme presents 13 feature films: • Mona (Latvia, director Inara Kolmane) • Cilvēki tur / People Out There (Latvia, director Aik Karapetian) • 90 minutter / 90 minutes (Norway, director Eva Sørhaug) • Mer eller mindre mann / The Almost Man (Norway, director Martin Lund) • Milosc / Loving (Poland, director Slawomir Fabicki) • Äta sova dö / Eat, sleep, die (Sweden, director Gabriela Pichler) • Oh Boy (Germany, director Jan Ole Gerster) • Eastalgia (Germany/Ukraine/Serbia, director Daria Onyshchenko) • Kohta 18 / Almost 18 (Finland, director Maarit Lalli) • Viceværten / The Caretaker’s Tale (Denmark, director Katrine Wiedemann) • Дочь / The Daughter (Russia, director Aleksandr Kasatkin, Natalya Nazarova) • Everybody's Gone (Russia, Georgia, Czech Republic, director Georgy Paradzhanov) • Deemonid / Demons (Estonia, director Ain Mäeots) Kiki Sugino from Japan highlights the Tridens Herring Film Competition Jury. Also Yokohama Film Festival and Osaka Cinema Festival awarded her the title of “Best New Actress” in 2012.
